Our farmers raise animals in a natural and more sustainable way, producing better quality, nutritious, and delicious red meat. Our ability to grow quality, nutritious grass year-round, means we produce animals in a more natural way with little intervention. The result is high quality, tasty, tender red meat with a cleaner and more complex flavor than grain-fed meat.
Silver Fern Farms products are minimally processed with no added growth hormones or antibiotics. Our grass-fed, free-range farming means antibiotics are rarely required. They are used in isolated cases for therapeutic reasons, and treated animals are subject to a withholding period until all traces pass from their system.
New Zealand’s grass-based system optimizes natural resources and uses low-intensity farming practices to minimize environmental impact. Farmers utilize a natural abundance of rainwater to grow grass, optimizing livestock growth to match the natural grass growth curve. Most of the land used for livestock in New Zealand is unsuitable for crops, making pastoral farming a highly sustainable alternative.
